What is NeuroEQ?
NeuroEQ™ is Insight Mastery’s brand name for its neuroleadership programs based on emotional intelligence. Our NeuroEQ Leadership program was developed after extensive studies in neuroscience, in particular:
- Neuroeconomics – the neuroscience of decision making
- Neuroleadership – the application of neuroscience to leadership
- The neuroscience of Happiness – after all, we want our clients to be happy as well as effective
Each of these streams of neuroscience applies how the brain functions to different aspects of leadership.
How is Neuroscience Used in Leadership?

Why Should I Know How the Brain Works?
The brain is a complex organism, consisting of several brains. Of particular interest is the old reptilian brain, which acts in good faith to protect us from harm. However, most of that which it seeks to protect us from [mammoths, invaders and other prehistoric creatures] no longer exist. This matters not to the reptilian brain, it still reacts strongly to anything it sees as ‘foreign’; firing up the limbic system, thereby triggering the fight or flight hormones – which raise our blood pressure and our stress levels.
Learning how to bypass this outdated brain is a major win for leaders. Since much of what they deal with is ‘new’, the last thing they need is this rigid, compulsive brain triggering negative emotions that shut down the new brain, the neocortex, which is responsible for abstract, creative, problem-solving functions.
Learning how to recognise which brain is in play at any one time is the foundation of self-awareness, the first module in the EQ Leadership program. This capability is critical to understanding what values and beliefs are driving your decision making. Studies have questioned whether reality is real – or is it purely your perceptions that create an instance of reality. These same perceptions form the basis for all decisions.
