Wisdom of Life

The Human Cost of a Dollar

TS Eliot wrote in the poem “The Rock”

“Where is the Life we have lost in living?
Where is the wisdom we have lost in knowledge?
Where is the knowledge we have lost in information?”

It is all very well having technology that can organise and transform data into analytical outcomes – but where is the knowledge in that data. How do we transform it into profitable action? Even when we do see the knowledge, how do we extract wisdom from it? How do we make sense of it relevant to the current phenomenon we are experiencing?

These are the questions that Insight Mastery seeks to address, by adding sensemaking to information, and emotional intelligence to knowledge. By adding #theHumanFactor back into our working environment. By adding wisdom back into knowledge.

Companies are in danger of becoming too data focused, too willing to accept the action of the word without the compassion of the person; too willing to kill the family for a few more hours of productivity. Is making a metric shine worth the death of the relationship between a parent and a child? The sad thing is that many leaders will answer…yes!

How many executives are not living their lives as an individual, rather they are merely existing as an employee. These are provocative statements, but they are also our current reality.

When we subrogate humanity for another dollar, we take not only from ourselves, we take from the meaning of life – the purpose of being. It’s a big cause, but a noble one, to consider just for a moment, what impact will a decision will ave on humanity – how will it influence [and impact] those around me?

It is not a difficult question to ask, or even to answer, but it seems it is a difficult question to face, and to action.

Giving up on living, is giving up on life. And life is all we really have. It is the one thing that we each have total control over. The real question we should each be asking is…

What am I really giving up for another dollar?
